Good morning to those whom the Father loves! Today is a special day of praying and, perhaps, fasting together. From all corners of North Durham and beyond, our hearts are fixed on Jesus who is Light of the World and Hope of the Nations.
This Sunday, and for the next seven weeks, SPL Church turns its minds and hearts toward the prayer Jesus taught his disciples (us!):
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one.
For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever and ever.
One way Christians have prayed this prayer over the centuries is slowly, phrase by phrase. Try that today—it may take 10 minutes or even half an hour.
For example, “Our Father,” might make you think about how incredible it is to approach the Living God as you would a parent who loves you. You might dwell for a minute on what it means that The Almighty calls you His daughter or son. You might even get stuck on the first word “Our” and find yourself grateful to be praying this alongside saints around the world and through all time, past, present and future.
Praying with you! Best of all, He listens and leans in.
