“Be still and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations
I will be exalted in the earth.”
Mindfulness might be all the rage right now. So much noise, so much busyness, so much confusion. “Get quiet. Get alone. Empty your mind. Tune into your inner person. Feel your own heartbeat.”
The Bible sees it a little differently. Being still is an opportunity to tune into the biggest stories, the things that God is doing. Your story matters, but only as an understory of what God is doing.
You can’t find your way if you are your own North Pole; you are lost if the compass only points to you. Instead, believers are directed to get quiet and be still and think about (know!) what is most true: God will be exalted among the nations. God will be exalted in the earth. The day is coming when He will be seen and will be known by all. He will make all things right. There will be a Resurrection of the righteous and the wicked. There is a plan and the plan is His plan. This brings hope and peace and joy.
However you find yourself praying this day and whatever you find yourself praying about, take time with me to be still and remember the One who formed the earth, called the nations into being, and will be known by all at just the right time.
Still with you,
