The heavens declare the glory of God;
The skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Day after day they pour forth speech;
Night after night they display knowledge.
There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard.
Their voice goes out into all the earth,
Their words to the end of the world.
Here are two messages that the stars are saying to the people of planet earth:
- The Living God is bigger than you think! The next nearest star is 4.3 light-years away ( a mere 40 trillion km away). The farthest star ever viewed (thank you Hubble Telescope!) is 5 billion light-years away. Stars have been around for so long! The distances and timelines are mind-blowing for us and point to One whose mind is not boggled or overwhelmed.
- The Living God loves you more than you know! The writer of Psalm 19 compares the stars in the Universe to the Word of God which “revives the soul, makes wise the simple and gives joy to the heart”. The truths He speaks to us are as old as the stars and yet as fresh and life-giving as ‘honey from the comb’!
This day as we pray, listen to the stars! Pour forth your own praise to the One who made us, loves us, and one day will make new heavens and new earth for the praise of His name. Maybe you’ll even step outside your home this night and listen to the stars and take a few frozen moments to express your praise.
Praying and star-gazing with you this day.
