“The poor will see and be glad-
You who seek God—may your hearts live!
The LORD hears the needy
And does not despise his captive people.”
“May your hearts live!” This is certainly a single-phrase summary of the heart of God.
“May your hearts live!” All of you, together! Come alive!
From the very beginning, when God speaks over creation, “Let there be … light, sky, land, stars, birds, fish, animals – LIFE!”
God’s heart is that we would be alive. Fully alive.
He says it to captive Israel in chains in Egypt.
He says it to the little girl who had died: “Little girl, get up!”
He says it to his “sleeping” friend Lazarus: “Come forth!”
He says it to Nicodemus, religious and confused: “Believe and have eternal life!”
He says it to you.
This day pray with the confidence that our LORD wants you and your neighbours (and your enemies) to come alive. Don’t ask for small things. Ask for His life in you for His glory and for the good of the world.
Praying and coming alive with you.
