Praise the LORD
All you servants of the LORD
Who minister by night
In the house of the LORD.
Lift up your hands in the sanctuary
And praise the LORD.
May the LORD bless you from Zion,
He who is the Maker of heaven and earth.
This psalm was written to the people who had the night shift. “Who minister by night in the house of the LORD”. Everyone else had gone home—the priests, the worshippers—and in came the night shift. Washing down the altars, carrying out the trash, reloading the firewood, all the while walking around the sacred spaces of worship to the Living God. I guess it could become “same old, same old.” Mundane.
These workers were reminded to “lift their hands in the sanctuary.” Don’t ever think that your work isn’t worship. Even when no one else is around or watching. God didn’t go home. He is present with you in whatever “mundane” work you find yourself doing. Clearly, He doesn’t see it as mundane, but as worship to Him.
If you find yourself up in the night, consider lifting your hands and speaking your praise. You could let loose a little; no one is watching. For that matter, you could do that at midday too!
Praying with you this day.
