Save me, O God, by your name;
Vindicate me by your might.
Hear my prayer, O God;
Listen to the words of my mouth.
Arrogant foes are attacking me;
Ruthless people trying to kill me-
People without regard for God.
Surely God is my help;
The LORD is the one who sustains me.
We’re not very comfortable with prayers like this.
For the most part we don’t feel threatened like this. No one is trying to kill us and it seems odd for us to pray such prayers.
But we know that there are places in the world where Christians are under threat of death. Over 100, maybe as many as 164 students were kidnapped from a Christian school in Nigeria on July 5, 2021. (Check out Voice of the Martyrs for this and other accounts.)
Many others have been kidnapped and most have not been heard of since. We ache over these stories. We ache over every story of suffering where one group of people brings evil on any group of precious human beings.
What can they do? What can we do?
We pray. We cry out to the LORD who hears us, the One who can and will bring his justice into even the worst of situations. “O LORD save, by your great name.”
Praying with you this day.
