Let my cry come before you, O LORD;
Give me understanding according to your word!

My lips will pour forth praise,
For you teach me your statutes,
My tongue will sing of your word,
For all your commandments are right.
The absolute best tool for me in my praying is the Bible. That’s where I get my words from, that’s where my thoughts are shaped, that’s where I learn the heart of God.
How about using your Bible today in your prayers today? You could read a Psalm out loud several times. You could pray one of the other prayers in the Bible—like Mary’s prayer or Zechariah’s or Daniel’s or Hagar’s. Turn to Paul in Ephesians and pray one of his prayers printed there.
You could also make your way to Philippians, the book we’re studying on Sunday morning, and pray passages that we’ve studied. You could pray through the passage we’ll study this Sunday (2:19-30). Pray for the preacher! It’s old-school wording but I recall someone saying, “When there’s prayer in the pew there’s power in the pulpit!” Bring it!
