How good and pleasant it is when God’s people
Live together in unity!
It is like precious oil poured on the head
Running down on Aaron’s beard
Down on the collar of his robe.
It is as if the dew of Hermon
Were falling on Mount Zion.
For there the LORD bestows his blessing,
Even life forevermore.
It’s still amazing to me that the King of the Universe wants a dynamic relationship with us! How is that even possible? He is so great and we are dust creatures.
It’s equally amazing that the King of the Universe is keen that we get along with each other. Our friendships matter to Him.
I’m guessing that the images in the Scripture above may not sound as pleasing in your ears as they would have to ancient worshippers! The one sounds like a laundry nightmare—oil on your clothes(!). And the other makes no sense unless you realize Mount Hermon was teeming with life like a rainforest and Mount Zion was a bald rock. They are both pictures of “best day ever” images.
When Christians get along it’s like God’s “best day ever.” Let’s spend the day praying for unity within our church, the Church in our area, and the Church worldwide. We are polarized on several matters these days but we shouldn’t be polarized about whether or not to love each other. You may find yourself praying for those whose relationship with you is ruptured. Those people and those relationships matter deeply to our Jesus who himself prayed that “we would be one.”
Praying with you this day.
