The LORD builds up Jerusalem;
He gathers the exiles of Israel.
He heals the brokenhearted
And binds up their wounds.
He determines the number of the stars
And calls them each by name. Great is our LORD and mighty in power;
His understanding has no limit.
I regularly forget who I’m talking to, not in my human conversations, but in prayer. It comes out with language like “If You could just..” or “If you would only…”. It’s like I’m talking to a friend with limited resources, even a parent or spouse who loves me but only has so much money or time or resources.
Our LORD has many things that are unlimited including his understanding. That’s reassuring! So many people these days sound like they know so much! It may be a legend but I heard of a time that Einstein drew a big circle on a chalkboard and then put a tiny dot in the middle of it. He pointed to the big circle and said “This is the knowledge available to human beings” and then he pointed to the tiny dot and said, “And this is how much of that I know.” That was honest.
So this day we come with our limited-understanding prayers and we bring them to the One who has all understanding. We ask and we seek and we happily leave the results in his hands.
His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse,
Nor is his delight in the legs of the warrior;
The LORD delights in those who fear him,
Who put their hope in his unfailing love.
Praying with you this day.
