We’re excited about our plans for Advent Season.
Each Wednesday of December we will pray through the day as a church family, focusing on one of the Advent themes. Join us by signing up for a 30-minute spot on one or more of these dates:
Need some ideas for your prayer time? Here are some suggestions to help guide your prayer:
Get comfortable.
Find a place where you can be uninterrupted for 30 minutes. You can go for a walk or sit in a comfortable chair. (Just avoid laying down where you’re likely to fall asleep!)
Get still inside.
If you can get distracted by your to-do list, take a few minutes and write down everything on your to-do list that you can think of; then set it aside and agree to come back to it after. Some people find that walking or slowly repeating a short phrase of Scripture (like, “Be still and know that I God.”) can help them to settle.
Use Scripture.
One option is to use the Lord’s Prayer as a model for your time of prayer. Another is to select a passage of Scripture and pray it aloud slowly at the beginning and end of your prayer time. Some ideas of Scripture passages to use are below.
Pray aloud.
Even if you are speaking under your breath, pray aloud. (If it makes you self-conscious to pray aloud outside, you can always wear headphones so that it looks like you’re talking on the phone.)
Suggested Scriptures
- Isaiah 64:1-9 (prayer of waiting for God to act)
- Ephesians 3:14-21 (prayer for the church)
- Psalm 27 (prayer of waiting)
- Psalm 16 (prayer for protection and confidence)
