Sermon Questions: Luke 8:40-56

  1. Jesus touched those who were unclean but instead of being made unclean, he restored them to full life. Does it change anything for you knowing that you don’t have to clean yourself up or get your act together to come to God?
  1. Are there people in your life or in our culture who might be seen as “unclean”? How can you reach out to them the same way that Jesus did?
  1. Why do you think Jesus didn’t allow the woman to keep her story of shame and healing private? What does that mean for us today?
  1. Folks in the crowd got close to Jesus, but they still kept Jesus on the margins of their lives. Jairus and the woman came to Jesus as their only hope. How about you? Is Jesus on your list of priorities—maybe even somewhere near the top—or *is* he your list?
  1. The woman and the girl were insignificant people who, as far as we know, didn’t go on to do notable things. How does Jesus’ tenderness and love towards these two ordinary people affect the way you view yourself? The way you view others?
  1. Both Jairus and the woman had to go through difficult experiences—Jairus losing a daughter, and the woman sharing her story—on the way to full healing. And Jesus had to go to the cross to defeat death. How do those stories affect how you approach difficult experiences or seasons in your life? If you are in a season like that now, how can your group pray for you?
