Prayer Wednesday

Hope is the first word of Advent. (Advent is the season right before Christmas.) It’s never seemed more appropriate than in 2020.

Hope, for Christians, means that God isn’t done here yet. There is more to come.

More to the point, there is One to come. When Israel had lost hope in Egypt, God was raising up Moses. When Israel had lost hope in Babylon, God was raising up Nehemiah and Ezra. And when Israel had lost hope under years of Roman occupation, God was…well, God was preparing to come Himself!

From beginning to end (and all the parts in-between), hope for Christians is always with Jesus.

“The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness

a light has dawned…

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.”

As we move into the day together, let’s pray our hope, believe our hope, and name our hope. It’s Jesus.

Hoping with you this day.

Andrew
