Prayer Wednesday

May my prayer be set before you
Like incense;
May the lifting up of my hands
Be like the evening sacrifice.

Someone has pointed out that this particular psalm of David (141) makes mention of body parts (hands, mouth, heart, head, bones, and eyes). It’s a great affirmation for ‘body engagement in praying’. For those of us who most often choose to be motionless and silent in prayer, this is an invitation to utilize your body. Go for a walk. Speak your prayers aloud. Raise your hands. Get on your knees. Get outside this night so the glory of the night sky filled with stars can spark your praise.

I’ve found something nearly undistractable (is that a word?) when involving my body in praying. Perhaps this is part of what was intended when we are commanded to ‘love the LORD our God with all our heart, soul, STRENGTH and mind.

But my eyes are fixed on you,
O Sovereign LORD;
In you I take refuge-
Do not give me over to death.

Engaging and praying with you this day.

Andrew
