“The heavens declare the glory of God;
The skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Day after day they pour forth speech;
Night after night they reveal knowledge.
They have no speech, they use no words;
No sound is heard from them.
Yet their voice goes out into all the earth,
Their words to the end of the world.”
When we pray, we join a conversation—we don’t start one. Social etiquette and common sense tell us to enter a conversation quietly, with an ear to listen before any eagerness to speak. There are voices that have been speaking truth and wisdom for a long time, long before we’ve been speaking, long before humans formed languages.
The stars speak. We have only begun to understand the stunning magnitude of our universe. Dizzying dimensions that are beyond comprehension surely speak of the greatness of our God. The stars, which are big “gas balls” that hold together, emit light, radiate heat—including our star that perfectly lights and warms our planet—are added testimony of His glory.
Ps. 19 tells us that these “heavenly hosts” are reminders of the “Law of the LORD,” the design of the Almighty, which also brings light and warmth to planet earth and human creatures.
It’s into this conversation that we listen and speak this day.
Don’t think that this means you need to stay silent. That would be a mistake. Our LORD invites and expects your prayers. Speak as one who was anticipated. You are one who is known and loved, one whom our Lord Jesus came to bring to life.
“ May the words of my mouth and this mediation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer. ”
Praying, listening, and meditating with you this day.
