“My strength was sapped in the heat of summer” (Psalm 32). When I read that I could relate! There are certain points during these scorching hot days when just the thought of walking into the heat makes me want to take a nap!
But David wasn’t talking about 30 degrees plus temperatures. What was he talking about?
Sin.
Or, more accurately, unconfessed sin:
Blessed is the one whose sin the LORD does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit. When I kept silent my bones wasted away through my groaning, all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy on me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD.” And you forgave the guilt of my sin.
Therefore let all the faithful pray to you while you may be found…”
We don’t talk much (enough!) about confessing our sin! Sin erodes and rots and makes us less human and creates distance between us and the One who loves us most. This day, as you pray, take time to sit before the Lord Jesus and ask Him, “Is there unconfessed sin in my life?” Not someone else’s sin; sin in your life. And if He reveals something, confess it, run to His grace, receive full forgiveness, and figure out how to slam the door on that particular sin going forward.
Do all this–praying, confessing and running from sinful patterns–confident that you are loved far more than you’ll ever understand.
Abundant Peace,
Andrew
